At the recent AGM of the Ngapona Assn it was unanimously decided to remove the requirement that limited the number of Associate Members to 25% of the number of Full Members. In order to change the constitution we are required to give a minimum of 28 days’ notice to members and the change should then be ratified at a General Meeting of the Association. It is intended that an Extra-ordinary General Meeting will be held at the conclusion of our lunch at the Birkenhead RSA on 16 August 2019 to change the constitution.
We held our Mid-Year Function at the Bays Club last Saturday. I would have to say that the night was a great success. In spite of the weather we had over 30 attendees. The venue was great, the food was great and the company was great. For those who were unable to attend you missed a good night. Thanks to Terry Creagh organising the event.
The Ngapona Assn held its AGM which was well attended. The committee remains unchanged: President – Jerry Payne Secretary – Shaun McAuley Treasurer – Terry Creagh Committee – Wayne Smith Committee – Richard Maddix Committee – Bob Mohammed CO’s Rep – Lt Cdr Nigel Heslop
We had a good muster (24) at our monthly lunch which was held at the Onehunga RSA last Friday. John Holmes, who is visiting NZ from Australia attended, (pity he didn’t tell us that he had also invited Maori TV to do some interviews!). We had as a special guest Arch Jelley, ex RNZN. Arch, who is now in his mid ninetys, is still coaching, he also does 5 – 7 km a day, although he admits it is now a brisk walk rather than a run. It was good to see some new faces at lunch including CPOMAA John (Budgy) Burridge.
The CO HMNZS Ngapona has once again invited ex members of Ngapona to attend the ANZAC Day Parade at the Memorial Wall at the Naval Base. The parade will march off at 0800, followed by the service and light refreshments. There will still be time to attend other parades during the morning. To assist in organising the parade we need an indication of numbers. Last year we had a good muster, let’s see if we can do better this year.
